MARMOFINISH FW

Fiber-reinforced decorative cementitious mortar – Base coat

MARMOFINISH FW is a fiber-reinforced cement mortar used indoors and outdoors as a smoothing mortar for floors and walls, but also for special structures such as built-in beds, tables, sinks, stairs and many other traditional or modern architectural applications. It ensures very good mechanical properties, while at the same time giving a high aesthetic effect. Homogeneous, ready-to-mix, industrial product of consistently high quality. It ensures good workability, increased application speed, it is economical and provides excellent results.

Composition & Features

• Mixture of white cement of high specifications with crushed marble of strictly selected granulometry and quality, enriched with special improving additives. • Classified according to the EN 1504-3:2005 standard as: (R2-PCC) concrete repair mortar for non-structural repairs.  

Application

• The substrate must be clean and firm and it is recommended to prime it with the waterproof quartz primer PS PRIMER. • The contents of the bag are gradually added to clean water or to water in which the desired pigment has been previously dissolved (approx. 5.0 l/bag) under continuous stirring using an electric mixer at low speed until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. The mixture is allowed to cure for 5 minutes and then stirred again before application. • MARMOFINISH FW is then applied with a serrated putty knife (6-10 mm). Then, while the coat is still damp, fiberglass mesh (reinforcement) is placed over the entire surface, with its strips overlapping by at least 10 cm. The reinforcement is then embedded using a smooth putty knife and the surface is smoothed by pressing, to prevent the formation of bubbles inside the material. • After 2-3 hours (depending on the environmental conditions) and while the surface of the cement mortar has begun to “dry”, a second coat of MARMOFINISH FW is applied with a smooth metal putty knife in order to fully smooth the surface and make it easier to accept the final coat. • After at least 24 hours, a final coat of MARMOFINISH FW FINAL or MARMOFINISH FW EXTRA FINE is applied with a smooth metal putty knife “pressed” over the entire surface. It is important that the putty knife passes through every part of the surface. • In the application phase of the final coat, other pigments can be added to the mixture, which, with the appropriate technique, will create “waves” in various tones on the final surface, giving a unique aesthetic effect. • After 2-3 days, the polyurethane varnish PROTECTOR SHIELD (gloss or matt) final coat is saturated universally on the surface, giving the final surface water repellency, high mechanical strength, stability and resistance to stains. • Usually, the application of polyurethane varnishes changes the color of the surface. If this is not desirable, it is recommended to apply an intermediate coat of PROTECTOR SHIELD ACRYL. • On large surfaces, care must be taken to provide expansion joints. • For even better results, see the relevant MARMOLATEX product. • During the first 24 hours after application, and especially in the summer months, it is recommended to wet the surface to avoid possible cracking due to sudden evaporation of water and dehydration of the product. • During application, extreme climatic conditions such as strong wind, rain, etc. should be avoided and the temperature should be between +5 oC and +35 oC.

Packaging & Storage

• In bags of 25 kg, on pallets. • In a dry, frost-free place, for 12 months from the date of production, in unopened bags.

Consumption

Approximately 1.5 kg/m2 for a thickness of 1 mm, depending on the type of substrate.
